How Much Does a WordPress Website Cost? Every Line Item
Domain, hosting at intro and renewal, SSL, email, theme, plugins and backups, line by line. Three illustrative budgets in ₹ and $ from official prices checked 5 November 2026, plus WordPress.com vs self-hosting.
A lean wordpress website cost in India can sit around ₹3,312 for four years of Hostinger Single hosting paid upfront, with a free domain, free SSL and a free theme. That figure is what Hostinger India's plan card showed on 5 November 2026, not a Coupo9 lab bill.
The catch is the stack. Domain, hosting at the intro price and at renewal, email, SSL, theme, plugins and backups each have their own line. Skip one and the "cheap" plan looks fine until year two.
Below is every line item, three illustrative budgets in ₹ and $, and WordPress.com versus self-hosting, so you can size your own wordpress website cost before you pay.
Free Let's Encrypt / auto SSL on Hostinger and Bluehost; included on WordPress.com paid plans.
Email
Often free for year one on the plan, then paid. Bluehost Pro Email lists $2.50/mo after its trial.
Theme
Free themes from wordpress.org cover most sites. Paid themes are optional marketplace buys.
Plugins and backups
Free plugins exist. Hostinger Single includes weekly backups; Premium adds free mailboxes for year one.
Paid theme and plugin catalogue prices change by vendor, so this guide does not invent those stickers. Treat them as optional once the core stack is live.
Domain: the first recurring bill
A .com is still the default for most sites. On Namecheap's domain prices on 5 November 2026, the hero promo offered .com at $6.48/year for new customers (instead of $15.98), while the table listed a $12.08 first-year sale and a $19.98 renewal. An ICANN fee of $0.20 can be added at checkout for some TLDs.
Hosts often bundle year one. Hostinger Single lists a free domain; Premium and Unlimited list "Domain - free for 1 year". Bluehost includes a free domain for the first year on 12- or 36-month web hosting terms. After that year, you renew at the registrar's then-current rate. Our guide to saving on domain name renewals is the place to compare that second-year hit.
Hosting: intro price vs what you renew at
Hosting is usually the largest slice of wordpress website cost, and the plan card is easy to misread.
On Hostinger India (5 November 2026), the 48-month plans paid upfront were:
Plan
Intro
You pay today
Renews at
Single
₹69/mo
₹3,312 for 48 months
₹289/mo
Premium
₹139/mo
₹6,672 for 48 months
₹449/mo
Unlimited
₹199/mo
₹9,552 for 48 months
₹649/mo
Bluehost's shared page (same day, via fetch of bluehost.com/hosting/shared): Starter $3.99/mo for a 36-month term, renews at $9.99/mo; Business $6.99/mo, renews at $13.99/mo. VAT/GST not included.
If ₹69 feels like the real cost of running a WordPress site, multiply the renewal instead. Single's next 48 months at ₹289 is ₹13,872. That pattern is why our cheapest WordPress hosting shortlist always checks the renewal line before the badge.
SSL, email, theme, plugins, backups
SSL did not need a separate invoice on the stacks we could read. Hostinger installs a free certificate automatically. Bluehost lists free Let's Encrypt SSL. WordPress.com paid plans include SSL with hosting.
Email is the quiet add-on. Hostinger Single includes a free mailbox; Premium gives two mailboxes per site free for one year. Bluehost's Pro Email trial then renews at $2.50/mo on the shared hosting page. After the free window, put a calendar reminder next to the domain renewal.
Themes and plugins: start free. A free theme plus a caching and a backup plugin covers most brochure sites. Buy a premium theme or a specialised plugin only when a free option blocks a real feature you need.
Backups: Hostinger Single and Premium include weekly backups on the plan card; Unlimited lists daily backups. Bluehost Starter lists weekly website backups. WordPress.com Personal and Premium include automated daily backups per the pricing FAQ; Business adds real-time backups. Paying twice for backup (host + plugin) is a common overspend.
Three illustrative budgets
These are worksheets built from the official list prices above, checked 5 November 2026. They are not Coupo9 checkout tests. Taxes and one-off paid themes are excluded. India stacks stay in ₹; managed US pricing stays in $.
Budget
Year 1 cash
Years 1–3 cash
What it assumes
Lean (India self-host)
₹3,312
₹3,312
Hostinger Single 48-month prepaid, free domain, free SSL, free mailbox, free theme/plugins. Still inside the first term through year 3.
Typical (India self-host)
₹6,672
₹6,672 + domain years 2–3
Hostinger Premium 48-month prepaid, domain free in year 1, two free mailboxes in year 1. Domain renews at the registrar's then-current rate from year 2 (Namecheap's public .com renew is $19.98 if you price it there).
Comfortable (WordPress.com Business)
$300
$900 on yearly billing, or $630 if you take the 3-year rate
Business at $25/mo billed yearly ($300/yr), or $17.50/mo billed every 36 months ($630 prepaid). Free domain in year 1 on annual/multi-year plans.
Lean and Typical look "done" for three years only because Hostinger's intro term is four years paid upfront. The renewal rate still matters: Single at ₹289/mo and Premium at ₹449/mo after that term. For a USD self-host alternative, Bluehost Starter at $3.99/mo for 36 months is about $143.64 if you prepay the term, then $9.99/mo at renewal.
How to read the table
Year 1 cash is what leaves your account in the first twelve months on these list prices. Years 1–3 is the running total. A long prepaid term front-loads cash and keeps years 2–3 quiet until the term ends.
WordPress.com vs self-hosting
WordPress.com sells hosting, SSL, backups and support as one subscription. On 5 November 2026 the official plan tiles showed:
Plan
Monthly
Yearly
2-year
3-year
Personal
$9
$4
$3.25
$2.75
Premium
$18
$8
$6.50
$5.50
Business
$40
$25
$20
$17.50
Commerce
$70
$45
$36
$31.50
Prices are per month, excl. taxes. Annual and multi-year paid plans include a free custom domain for the first year and plugin installs on every paid plan. The exact "auto-renews at" dollar after the prepaid term did not render for automated fetch, so that figure is left out.
Self-hosting (WordPress.org on Hostinger, Bluehost or similar) splits domain and hosting, lets you pick any host, and usually wins on raw rupee cost if you stick to free themes and the intro term. WordPress.com wins when you want one bill, managed backups and less server work. Personal at $4/mo yearly ($48/year) is the low managed floor; Business at $25/mo yearly is the comfortable managed line in the table above.
The honest wordpress website cost is a stack, not a hosting badge. On today's list prices, a careful India self-host on Hostinger Single can clear year one for ₹3,312 prepaid across four years of hosting, with SSL and a basic theme at zero. A typical Premium stack is ₹6,672 prepaid the same way. A comfortable managed path on WordPress.com Business is $300 a year on yearly billing, or $630 if you prepay three years.
Our recommendation: pick the lean self-host stack if you are fine updating plugins yourself and you will calendar the renewal. Pick WordPress.com Personal or Business if you want one vendor and less ops. Either way, write the renewal line into the budget before you click pay, so wordpress website cost stays a plan and not a surprise invoice.
