The Online Sale Calendar: The Best Time to Buy Everything
Timing beats hunting
The deepest discounts are seasonal, not random. Retailers clear stock and chase targets on a predictable calendar, and the same product can vary 30–50% in price across the year. Know the rhythm and you rarely need to pay full price for anything.
The big sale seasons
January — Republic Day and clearance
The year opens with Republic Day sales and winter clearance. Strong for fashion, luggage and home. Electronics discounts are moderate — better windows come later.
April to May — summer sales
Appliance season: air conditioners, refrigerators and coolers see aggressive bundling with bank offers before peak summer. Fashion runs end-of-season markdowns from late April.
June to July — mid-year clearance
Fashion hits its deepest cuts of the half-year as retailers clear summer stock — this is when 50–80% off is genuinely common. Also a quiet, good window for travel bookings before the festive rush.
August — Independence Day sales
Short, sharp events across most large stores. Good for electronics and mobiles, often with instant bank discounts doing the heavy lifting.
September to October — the festive peak
The biggest shopping window of the year. Flagship sale events land back to back, and mobiles, TVs and laptops hit their lowest prices of the year — usually in the opening 48 hours of each event. Bank offers, exchange bonuses and coupons all stack here.
November — Diwali and after
Festive pricing continues, then transitions into wedding-season demand. Jewellery, apparel and gifting deals dominate; electronics prices start recovering.
December — year-end and EORS again
End-of-season fashion sales return, and travel portals discount January departures. A strong month for gift cards and subscription renewals too.
Category cheat sheet
- Mobiles and laptops: festive events (Sep–Oct), or the weeks right after a new model launches, when the outgoing model drops.
- Fashion: end-of-season sales in June–July and December.
- Large appliances: March–May for cooling, October for everything else.
- Travel: book 6–8 weeks ahead, and watch mid-year and December portal sales.
- Beauty: festive gifting sets in October–November offer the best per-ml value.
How to work the calendar
- Wishlist early and note the pre-sale price — "70% off" claims mean little without a baseline.
- Big events reward the first 48 hours; restocked deals rarely match opening prices.
- Whatever the season, finish with the standard stack: sale price, verified code, bank offer, cashback.
Pair this calendar with the live offers on any store page here, and the discount is mostly decided before you ever reach checkout.
