Starter or Business: what $3 more a month buys
Starter and Business share the basics: a domain free for the first year, free Let's Encrypt SSL, weekly website backups, a free CDN, NVMe SSD storage and a WordPress staging site. The differences are room and protection.
- Starter: 10 websites, 10 GB of storage and "Ideal for 40K visits/mo". Support is 24/7 chat; phone support isn't included.
- Business: 50 websites, 50 GB and "Ideal for 200K visits/mo", plus phone support, a web application firewall, DDoS protection, AI-powered malware detection and removal, and domain privacy free for the first year.
- eCommerce Essentials: 100 websites and 100 GB, with WooCommerce auto-install, secure payment processing, product subscriptions, visitor memberships and paid courses.
Starter and Business also list a Pro Email free trial. It lasts one month, and the sign-up note says the email plan then renews automatically at $2.50 a month.
Bluehost's renewal ladder, plan by plan
Intro prices as listed on Bluehost's shared hosting page and renewal rates from its renewal price list on 4 October 2026, in US dollars. The paid-in-advance figure is 36 times the monthly rate, because Bluehost's terms say "All payments are taken, in advance, for the full term of your plan."
The crossed-out price on each card is that plan's 36-month renewal rate. So "Save 60%" compares Starter's intro price with what you'll pay from month 37. That's a fair yardstick, and a useful one to know when you judge whether a sale price is genuine.
Claim the domain early and drop the email trial
Take the 36-month term. It's the term the card prices are quoted for, it has the lowest renewal rate on Bluehost's list, and the plan renews for the same length as your first term unless you switch auto-renewal off.
Redeem the free domain within 90 days of purchase, or the offer lapses. It covers a new registration or a transfer on endings such as .com, .net, .org, .blog and .store, though not premium names, and from year two it renews at the then-current rate. Our guide to saving on domain renewals covers that bill.
Cancel the Pro Email trial inside the first month if you don't want a $2.50 monthly charge.
Know the refund rules. The 30-day money-back guarantee covers shared hosting but not plans on a monthly term, and Bluehost deducts the free domain's regular fee from the refund. Only one coupon or promotional offer can be applied at a time, so there's nothing to stack.
Start on Starter unless you need a phone line or a shop
Starter is the right buy for most first sites. Ten websites and Bluehost's 40K-visits guidance cover a blog, a portfolio or a local business site, and at $3.99 a month it's the cheapest shared plan Bluehost lists.
Pay the extra $3 for Business if you want phone support or the security layer: the web application firewall and DDoS protection aren't on Starter's card.
eCommerce Essentials only earns its $14.99 if you'll use the WooCommerce extras such as subscriptions, memberships or paid courses, because it renews at $21.99 a month.
Skip Bluehost's shared plans if you can't commit to three years. Starter renews at $15.99 a month on a monthly term, and monthly plans fall outside the money-back guarantee, so you'd pay more with no safety net. Commit to the 36 months and the price on the card already is your Bluehost coupon.
