Web hosting renewal prices are usually two to four and a half times the price you signed up at. On the plan pages we checked on 2 November 2026, Hostinger India's Single plan goes from ₹69 to ₹289 a month, and SiteGround's StartUp plan goes from $3.99 to $17.99.
The jump isn't hidden, exactly. It sits one line under the big number, in smaller type. Take Hostinger's Single plan: ₹3,312 covers the first 48 months, and the same 48 months at the renewal rate cost ₹13,872. That's ₹10,560 more for the same site on the same server.
Once you know where the renewal line sits and when it kicks in, you can plan around web hosting renewal prices instead of being surprised by them.
What renewal really costs: the table
We read each host's own pricing page on 2 November 2026 and copied the entry plan's numbers as shown. Prices exclude tax.

| Hostinger India Premium | ₹139/month | ₹6,672 for 48 months, paid upfront | ₹449/month |
| Bluehost Starter | $3.99/month | 36-month term | $9.99/month |
| SiteGround StartUp | $3.99/month | Prepaid for 12 months | $17.99/month |
| Namecheap Stellar | $2.28/month | Term not shown on the page we read | Regular list price $5.88/month or $55.88/year |

Why hosting prices jump at renewal
Our read: the intro price is a customer-acquisition price. Hosts accept a thin first term because most people don't move their site once it works, and moving feels like a chore.
Hostinger says it outright in its help docs: "All billing cycles after initial purchase are billed at regular rate" (Hostinger billing cycle help, checked 2 November 2026). So renewing for another 48 months doesn't bring the ₹69 rate back. It just locks in ₹289 for longer.
The pattern isn't limited to hosting. VPNs, password managers and security tools do the same, which is why our guide to saving money on software subscriptions puts the renewal line before the intro price.
The struck-out price is not the renewal price
Here's the catch that trips people up. The crossed-out number on a plan card looks like the "real" price, but it often isn't what you'll pay next.
On Hostinger India, the Single plan shows ₹399 struck out, yet it renews at ₹289. On SiteGround, the struck-out $17.99 matches the renewal exactly. GoDaddy India shows ₹299 struck out next to ₹89 and the page we could read doesn't label a renewal figure beside the price.
Three hosts, three different meanings for the same visual cue. The only number that matters is the one next to the word "renews". If a plan card doesn't show it, look for it in the checkout summary or the terms before you pay.
Do the maths for the second term
A cheap first term can hide an expensive site over the years you'll actually keep it.
Take SiteGround StartUp. Year one costs $47.88 prepaid. Year two at $17.99 a month costs $215.88, four and a half times as much. Bluehost Starter is gentler: $3.99 rises to $9.99, a 2.5x jump.
Hostinger's long term spreads it out. The Single plan's first 48 months cost ₹3,312, the next 48 cost ₹13,872, so eight years come to ₹17,184. That's still cheap hosting. It's just not ₹69 hosting.
When you compare hosts, add the first term and one renewal term. Our cheapest WordPress hosting roundup is a good shortlist to run that sum on, and the how to choose web hosting guide covers sizing the plan first.
Five ways to keep the low price longer
1. Take the longest term you'd use anyway
Hostinger's intro price runs for the full 48 months if you pay for 48. The catch: it's all paid upfront, so only do it for a site you're confident about. A 30-day money-back window helps if you change your mind early.
2. Switch off auto-renew on day one
On Hostinger it's a toggle under Billing, then Subscriptions. The plan stays active until it expires, then stops charging.
3. Move before renewal
A new host's intro price is often lower than your current host's renewal. Most offer free migration tools, so switching in the last month can reset you to an intro rate.
4. Pick a host that bills flat
Cloudways bills monthly for what you use, from $11 a month, and its pricing page says there's no lock-in. No intro rate means no renewal jump.
5. Watch the free extras
Free domains and mailboxes usually last one year. Bluehost's terms say that if you cancel within 30 days, it deducts a non-refundable domain fee from your refund. Our guide to saving on domain name renewals covers the domain side.
Check for a coupon before renewal day
Coupons rarely cut a renewal invoice, but they can cut the intro price at a new host, which is what makes moving worthwhile.
Before your renewal date, open the current offers for the hosts on your shortlist: Hostinger coupons, Bluehost coupons, Namecheap coupons and Cloudways coupons. Compare the new host's first-term total with your current renewal quote. If the gap pays for an afternoon of migration work, move. Every live host offer is also on our web hosting deals page.
The renewal-day routine
Set this up the day you buy, and the renewal never surprises you:
- Screenshot the plan card showing the renewal price.
- Put the renewal date in your calendar, with a reminder 30 days earlier.
- Turn off auto-renew, or at least confirm which card it will charge.
- A month out, price the same plan at two other hosts and check their coupons.
- Ask your current host for its renewal quote and whether a retention offer exists.
- Decide: renew, downgrade or move. Don't let the default decide for you.
Our take
Web hosting renewal prices are predictable, and that's the good news. Most hosts we checked print the renewal figure right under the intro price. The trouble only starts when you ignore it.
For a new site in India, an Indian-priced plan on a long term is still the cheapest way to get online, as long as you budget for the renewal from day one. For a site you might rebuild or drop within a year, a flat monthly bill avoids the jump entirely.
Whichever you pick, treat the renewal date as a decision point, not a payment date. Price your options a month ahead, and you'll rarely pay full web hosting renewal prices for long.
FAQs
Only by buying a longer first term. Hostinger's billing help says every billing cycle after the first purchase is charged at the regular rate, so renewing early or for longer doesn't bring back the intro price. Pick the longest term you're confident the site will last.
