Where Canva Free ends and Pro begins
Canva Free is a working design tool, not a teaser. It has the drag-and-drop editor, 1.6M+ templates, 4.7M+ photos, videos, graphics and audio, one Brand Kit limited to three colours, real-time collaboration, 5GB of storage and up to 20 AI uses a month.
Pro widens the library to 3.6M+ templates and 141M+ premium photos, videos, graphics and audio. It adds background removal for images and video, Magic Resize, five Brand Kits with brand templates, social scheduling, print-ready CMYK export and bulk design, plus 100GB of storage. The monthly AI allowance rises to as many as 200 Premium uses, or 20 uses of the higher-tier Ultra tools. Canva is explicit that only one person can use a Pro account.
Business is the team plan now that Canva Teams is closed to new sign-ups. It adds collaboration and admin tools, 100 Brand Kits with approvals, Flourish, 10% off print orders where Canva Print operates, 500GB of storage and double Pro's AI allowance.
What Canva charges per person, per year
Yearly prices as listed on Canva's pricing page on 4 October 2026, in US dollars, excluding tax. Monthly billing costs more: the page's toggle says yearly saves "from 16%". Canva publishes no separate renewal price, and its help centre says Business pricing depends on your location, so check the figure at your own checkout.
Canva's pricing page lists no code, but its help pages describe several ways to spend less.
- Start the Pro or Business trial. One started without payment details ends automatically with no charge. Don't judge Pro's AI on it, though: trials get Free's AI allowance until they convert.
- Pay yearly only once the trial has convinced you, since Canva says subscriptions are in most cases not refundable.
- Pause rather than cancel. Monthly and annual plans can pause for three months with no charges, although an annual plan can only pause when renewal is less than two months away.
- In India or Indonesia, look for Canva Pro Lite, a cheaper plan with premium content and Background Remover but Free-level AI.
- K-12 teachers and students get Canva Education free. College and university students don't qualify.
- Nonprofits that need more than 50 seats get the extras at 50% off on Canva Enterprise.

Who should pay for Canva, and who shouldn't
Stay on Free if you make the odd social post or slide deck. The full editor, 1.6M+ templates and up to 20 AI uses a month cover that, and our roundup of free AI tools for small businesses has more no-cost options to pair with it.
Buy Pro if you design every week on your own. Background removal, premium stock and five Brand Kits are what the US$144 really buys, and it's priced for one person, not a team.
Business costs US$106 more per person each year than Pro. Pay it when two or more people need shared brand assets and approvals, or when one heavy AI user needs double Pro's allowance. Don't buy it for the storage alone.
Nonprofits and K-12 schools shouldn't pay anything until their application is decided. University students can't use Canva Education, so the trial is their way into Pro. For individuals, a trial run on real work is worth more than hunting for a Canva coupon the pricing page doesn't offer.
