Every ExpressVPN plan gets the same VPN: the Lightway protocol, post-quantum protection, a built-in speed test, servers in 113 countries and speeds listed at up to 40Gbps. ExpressVPN says its servers run from RAM, which is wiped on every reboot, and that KPMG, PwC and Cure53 have audited its no-logs claims.
The tiers split on extras:
- Basic: 10 devices, Lite Protection against ads, malicious sites and adult sites, and an ExpressMailGuard email relay capped at 10 MB a month with 10 shared aliases
- Advanced: 12 devices, tracker blocking on top, the ExpressKeys password manager with a 2FA authenticator, and a holiday.com travel eSIM with 3GB for 3 days
- Pro: 14 devices, a dedicated IP included rather than sold as an add-on, unlimited email relay with 20 custom domains, a 3GB eSIM for 5 days, and ExpressAI with 500 credits a day across 6 models
Don't count on the eSIM on day one. ExpressVPN says it works only on eSIM-compatible phones that aren't tied to a carrier, and only once a paid subscription begins.
The 28-month plans, side by side
Prices as listed on ExpressVPN's pricing page on 4 October 2026, in US dollars, before any sales tax.
Each struck-through total is 28 months at that tier's monthly rate, which is how the page arrives at "Total savings" of $336, $350 and $434. Those savings are only real if you'd otherwise have paid monthly for 28 months straight. If crossed-out prices make you wary, our guide on how to tell if a sale price is genuine is worth a look.
Cheaper ExpressVPN comes down to tier and timing
Pick the tier by what you'll use, not by the badge. Advanced carries the "Most Popular" label, yet it costs $42 more than Basic over the first 28 months and $20 a year more at renewal. That's worth paying only if you'd use ExpressKeys or need 12 connections. Pro costs $126 more up front and $100 a year more at renewal, so it mainly suits people who'd buy a dedicated IP anyway.
Buy on the website, not inside the iOS or Android app. In-app subscriptions don't get the 30-day money-back guarantee, and refunds there are up to Apple or Google. The app route does come with a 3-day free trial.
Then plan for month 28. Set a reminder a week before the term ends and decide whether $99.95 a year still suits you; our tips on avoiding unused subscriptions help here. If the renewal slips through anyway, ExpressVPN promises a full refund when you ask within 14 days of a renewal you didn't intend.
Basic for most households, Pro only for dedicated-IP users
Basic is the plan to buy. Ten devices covers most homes, the VPN is the same in every tier, and its renewal is the lowest at $99.95 a year.
Choose Advanced if you'd otherwise pay for a password manager, since ExpressKeys and tracker blocking are the real differences. Choose Pro only for the dedicated IP or 14 connections. ExpressAI and a longer eSIM are pleasant extras, but they don't justify $100 a year more on their own.
Skip the long plan if you need a VPN for one trip. You'd pay for 28 months up front, and the refund promise covers first-time users only. For everyone else, Basic's 28-month plan is the ExpressVPN coupon that does the most for the least money.
