From Lite up, every plan includes Site Explorer, Keywords Explorer, Site Audit, Rank Tracker, Web Analytics, Brand Radar with tracked AI prompts, Report Builder, and API and MCP access. Starter gets the core research tools on far tighter limits.
What really changes between tiers is the credit meter. Opening reports and pulling fresh data in most core tools spends credits, while Site Audit and Rank Tracker run on their own limits:
- Starter: 200 credits a month
- Lite: 1,000 credits per user a month
- Standard and Advanced: unlimited credits per user
Standard is also where Content Explorer, Portfolios, Batch Analysis and SERP comparison begin, so read that list before settling on Lite. Advanced adds a Looker Studio integration and five years of data.
Ahrefs Free sits outside the paid ladder. Ahrefs calls it "Not a trial": six tools you keep, including the SEO Toolbar and AI Content Helper. Site Explorer, Site Audit and Web Analytics only work on sites you've verified as yours, and Site Audit gets 5,000 crawl credits a month per project.
What each Ahrefs plan costs, monthly or yearly
Prices as listed on Ahrefs' pricing page on 4 October 2026, in US dollars; Starter limits from Ahrefs' help centre the same day. Ahrefs doesn't publish separate renewal prices, and none of these rates is marked as introductory.
Extra seats cost $40 a month each on Lite (up to two), $60 on Standard (up to five) and $80 on Advanced (up to ten). Starter can't take extra users or credits, and it renews monthly only.
Pay yearly only after a month on the right tier
Annual billing is the biggest saving Ahrefs offers and the hardest to undo, so earn it with one month of monthly billing first.
Start low. Ahrefs' Starter terms say "You cannot downgrade from a Lite or higher plan to a Starter plan," while upgrades take effect immediately. Begin on Starter and you can always climb; begin on Lite and the $29 door is shut.
Watch the meter that month. If Lite's 1,000 credits run dry before the month ends, test Standard before you commit a year to Lite.
Then switch. If you're already paying monthly, Ahrefs' FAQ says to move to annual billing by emailing support@ahrefs.com.
Leave pay-as-you-go off. Once it's enabled, Ahrefs charges you automatically when usage passes your plan's limits, and extra users are billed the same way unless prepaid. Our guide to avoiding unused SaaS subscriptions covers the habits that stop those charges creeping up.
Ahrefs Free covers sites you own, and the free SEO Toolbar and AI Visibility Checker work without any paid plan.
Starter for one site, Standard for client work
Without an Ahrefs coupon to lean on, choosing the right tier is where the money is saved. Ahrefs pitches Lite at "small businesses and personal projects," Standard at "freelance SEOs and marketing consultants" and Advanced at "lean in-house marketing teams."
Buy Starter if you run one site and want Keywords Explorer and Rank Tracker without a $129 bill. Its 200 credits and 50 tracked keywords suit a weekly check-in, not daily research.
Buy Lite for up to five projects and steady, light research.
Go straight to Standard for client work. You get unlimited credits, two years of history and Content Explorer, none of which Lite has.
Skip paying if the only site you care about is your own: Ahrefs Free audits it and shows who links to it. Weighing up Semrush too? Our Semrush page sets out its trial and yearly prices the same way.
Ahrefs won't run a sale you could wait for, so the yearly toggle is the closest thing to an Ahrefs coupon you'll get.
