Rather than producing courses itself, it lets independent instructors publish and sell them, which has produced a catalogue of well over 200,000 courses spanning programming, business, design, marketing, music, and personal development.

Courses are bought individually and grant lifetime access, with video lectures, downloadable resources, quizzes, and a certificate of completion. Udemy also sells Personal Plan subscriptions covering a curated slice of the catalogue, and Udemy Business for companies that want team licences and analytics across thousands of courses.

Udemy pricing is unusual: list prices are high but sitewide sales run frequently and pull most courses down to a floor price, so paying full price is rarely necessary. Personalised discounts also appear for logged-out users and abandoned carts, and every purchase carries a 30-day refund window.
